Underfloor heating turns the whole floor into a low, even radiator and gives you the walls back for furniture. It suits extensions, renovated ground floors and any room where radiators always felt like a compromise. We install wet systems running off the heating circuit and electric mats for single rooms, and we diagnose existing installs that have gone cold or stopped listening to the thermostat.
What you can expect
- Wet pipe and electric mat systems fitted
- Each zone controlled at its own temperature
- Floor build-up planned around heights with your builder
- Existing systems diagnosed, not just condemned
- Options sized to extensions and renovations
Wet or electric: choosing the system
Wet underfloor heating circulates warm water through pipe set in the floor, usually in screed, and suits whole floors and extensions because running costs stay sensible. Electric mats sit under the floor covering and are quicker and cheaper to fit, which makes them good for a single room, though they cost more to run across a whole house. The choice usually comes down to the floor height you can give up, what the boiler or heat source can feed, and how much floor is involved.
How an installation runs
Insulation goes down first, because heat that escapes downwards is wasted. Wet systems then get their pipe laid in planned circuits off a manifold, one zone per room, with screed or a floor panel system over the top. Screed needs to dry before the final floor covering goes down, so timing with your builder matters and we coordinate it. Thermostats go in each zone, and we commission the system, balancing flows so no room is left behind.
Fault finding on existing systems
A cold room on an otherwise working system is often a stuck actuator on the manifold, an air lock in that circuit, or a flow that was never balanced properly. A system ignoring its thermostat usually has a controls or wiring fault. Wet systems that lose pressure need the leak traced before any floor is opened. Electric systems mostly fail at the thermostat or a connection. We work through the accessible parts methodically and tell you what we find before any floor comes up.
Frequently asked questions
Can underfloor heating replace my radiators completely?
In suitable projects yes, provided the boiler or heat source suits the lower flow temperatures.
Will it work under wooden floors?
Yes, with the right build-up and a floor rating that tolerates the temperatures; we check before fitting.
One room has gone cold. What now?
Usually a zone fault rather than a floor problem, and we can diagnose most of it from the manifold. Rooms where underfloor does not make sense can keep radiators, with smart controls running the two together. We work across East London, including Bow.
