What an annual boiler service includes
A proper service is more than a quick glance at the boiler. Our engineers work through a checklist that covers the parts which fail quietly:
A visual inspection of the boiler, its flue and where the flue terminates, looking for corrosion, leaks or anything that has been disturbed since the last visit.
Combustion and flue gas readings, to confirm the boiler is burning gas cleanly and at the rate the manufacturer intended.
Gas pressure checks, plus tests on the safety devices, so the boiler would switch itself off properly if a fault developed.
System water pressure, the expansion vessel and the pump, and a look at seals and joints for early signs of weeping.
A check for leaks around the system and a look at the condition of the water inside it, because dirty system water is what kills radiators and pumps slowly.

Why service the boiler every year
Efficiency comes first. A boiler with limescale on the heat exchanger or sludge in the system has to burn more gas to deliver the same heat, and that extra gas is on your bill every month.
Warranty is the second reason. Nearly every boiler manufacturer makes annual servicing a condition of the warranty, so skipping a year can leave a genuine fault unpaid. Keep the paperwork each time.
Safety is the reason we would never drop. A gas boiler that is not burning correctly can produce carbon monoxide, which has no smell and no taste. The annual visit is when a Gas Safe engineer checks the boiler is burning safely and the flue is clearing properly.
It is also the cheaper way to own a boiler. A worn part caught during a service is usually a small fix. The same part left alone tends to fail at the least convenient moment and sometimes takes other components with it.
What happens if the engineer finds a fault
It happens often, and it is not a problem. The engineer will explain what has failed, whether it needs sorting now or can safely wait, and give you a written quote for the repair before any work goes ahead. You are never committed on the day.

We do not list a fixed price because the fee depends on the boiler and the checks it needs. Call us with the boiler make and model for a specific price before booking. Any repair is quoted separately in writing, and if the service finds no fault, you pay for the service and nothing else.
