Before spending four figures on heating work, it helps to know what the system actually needs rather than what a salesman fancies selling. Our heating survey looks at the whole setup: the boiler's condition, radiator sizes against the rooms they heat, controls, pipework and the state of the water circulating inside. You get a written summary in plain English, recommendations in order of urgency, and no obligation to have any of the work done by us.
What you can expect
- Boiler, radiators, controls and pipework reviewed
- Radiator output checked against room sizes
- System water checked for sludge and corrosion
- Written findings and prioritised recommendations
- No obligation to go ahead with any work
Who the survey is for
It earns its keep before a refurbishment or extension, when a boiler has needed repeated repairs, when some rooms never warm properly, when gas bills have crept up without a change in habits, or when you have inherited a system and know nothing about it. It also settles the repair-versus-replace question with evidence instead of guesswork. Businesses use it too, before committing to premises they are taking on.
What we look at
We note the boiler's make and condition and how it has been looked after, check radiators against the rooms they serve, and go through the controls: thermostat placement, thermostatic valves, timers and how the system is actually run day to day. Pipework routes, visible corrosion and insulation all get noted. We test the system water as well, because black sludge tells a truer story about internal condition than any brochure. Boiler safety checks are carried out by our Gas Safe registered engineers.
What you get afterwards
A written summary of what we found, then recommendations ordered by urgency: what needs doing, what can wait, and what is not worth the money. If you want work done, quotes are free and in writing whether or not we surveyed first, and there is no obligation to use us for it. People often keep the report as a budget plan across a couple of years, which is exactly the point of writing it down.
Survey cost and booking
The survey is a booked engineer visit, separate from a free follow-up quote. Call us to confirm the survey fee and available dates; we will explain the arrangements before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Is the survey itself free?
Enquiries and follow-up written quotes are free; the survey is a booked engineer visit, so call or message us and we will explain the arrangements before you commit.
Can you tell whether my boiler is near the end?
Condition, service history and symptoms point one way or the other, and you get an honest read rather than a sales line.
Is this the same as a boiler service?
No; a boiler service is a safety and maintenance check on the boiler itself, while a survey looks at the whole system. Surveying houses before purchase is our pre-purchase survey. We cover East London, including Mile End.
